Pierre-François Tingry (1743-1821), a Geneva pharmacist: his research in plant chemistry.
Tingry spent his entire professional and scientific career in Geneva, after completing his pharmacy studies in Paris. An important part of his writings, unpublished and conserved in Geneva, concerns plant chemistry. His work was principally devoted to thecomposition and varied parts of the flower Lilium album. Although he is classified as a minerologist and inorganic chemist, it is fitting to think of him also as a botanist and innovative talent in pharmacognosis.
Pierre-François Tingry (1743-1821), ein Genfer Apotheker : seine Forschungen in pflanzlicher Chemie. Tinguy hat seine ganze berufliche und wissenschaftliche Laufbahn in Genf zurückgelegt, nachdem er seine pharmazeutische Studien in Paris absolviert hat. Ein wichtiger Teil seiner in Genf aufbewahrten und nicht edierten Manuskripte betreffen die Pflanzenchemie. Seine Arbeiten beziehen sich vornehmlich auf die Zusammensetzung der verschiedenen Teile der Lilium album Blüte. Trozdem er den Anorganikern und Mineralogen zugeteilt wird, ist es billich ihn ebenfalls als einen Botaniker und talentvoller Neuerer in der Pharmakognosie, zu betrachten.
