INSTRUCTOR
Arthur Edward Schwartz CAE
Arthur Schwartz is the Deputy Executive Director and General Counsel of the National Society of Professional
Engineers.
He serves as staff director to the NSPE Board of Ethical Review, Licensure & Qualifications for
Practice Committee, as well as the NSPE/PEPP Professional Liability Committee.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts
Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Juris Doctor degree from the American
University/Washington College of Law.
Mr. Schwartz writes an ethics column and legal column in NSPE’s
monthly publication
PE
as well as a column on ethics for
Structural Engineer
magazine.

Program: ENGINEERS LEAD LEED AND GREEN BUILDING DESIGN
Program will include excerpts for a 16 hour on line course offered by TSPE on Sustainable design.
Topics
covered will be sustainable sites, water efficiency and energy efficiency.
Program will include information
that will have applicability to all engineering disciplines.
Our presenter will be Tom Needham, P.E. who
has practiced engineering in the State of Tennessee as design engineer, project manager, and construction
manager. His engineering and management expertise has improved not only the infrastructure but also the
cityscape of the Memphis community and surrounding area. Notable accomplishments include: program
management for the Memphis Area Transit Authority where he was responsible for the Central Station
renovation and the Medical Center rail extension; project management for the Tennessee Air National
Guard on a master plan for the relocation of the Memphis unit to a new site accommodating C-5 Aircraft;
program management for the IDQ contract with the Memphis Housing Authority; and project management
for Federal Express on design of their Air Operations Training Facility.
This meeting is worth 1.0 PDH.

Volunteers Needed for Memphis and Shelby County
Regional MATHCOUNTS Competition
The 2007 Memphis and Shelby County regional MATHCOUNTS competition will be Saturday, February 3,
2007.
MATHCOUNTS is a national program for 7th and 8th grade students to encourage them to develop
the tools in mathematics necessary to pursue a career in engineering and science.
The Memphis and Shelby
County MATHCOUNTS program is the major public service activity of our chapter, and our members
organize and proctor our local competition each year, with awards given to the winning students at our
Engineers Week Banquet.
