Description
At the present time, school efficiency is often related to school climate and school culture. They very strongly influence the teachers' courage, their ways of thinking and communicating, their emotional relationships, and thus their attitude towards innovation. This? Approach offers an interesting alternative to the technological and political approach to educational change. Especially, we shall insist on the way in which school culture specifies a dominant and thus légitime type of professional culture between teachers. This paper presents different types of school cultures : individualism, balkanization, big family, contrived collegiality, professional cooperation. Each of these cultures is characterized by a special type of professional relationship, of leardership, and of groupe attitudes, me different research results give evidence that members of effective schools adhere freely to the idea of cooperation culture. This means a serious break with trie usual individualism, but also with the idea of contrived participation. This is the reason why it is important to analyse the obstacles as well as the facilitators of the culture of cooperation.
