Such fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems cannot be split into twoindependent subproblems but rather have to be treated as a coupled system. This is the case forinstance for vortex shedding of flexible bodies or for wind-excited thin-walled structures. ManyFSI applications of engineering interest will involve fully turbulent, incompressible flow. The simulation framework established in the present work was developed with respect to anapplication in this important subclass.
