TheThe presentpresent publicationpublication givesgives anan overview ofof Community demonstration
projectsprojects onon "Grid-Connected WindWind Turbines" presentedpresented duringduring aa contractors'
meeting held in Sardinia (Italy) on 11th and 12th June 1987.
Most of the wind demonstration projects have now reached the stage
where the majority of the problems associated with design and installation
have been overcome and the first results are being monitored.
TheThe meetingmeeting waswas organized withwith thethe kindkind collaborationcollaboration andand supportsupport ofof
ENEL, ENEA and Aer Italia and took place at the ENEL Information Centre at
Alta Nurra. After the meeting, a visit to the wind machines in Sardinia
was organized.
The objectives of this contractors' meeting were:
-- toto assessassess thethe statestate ofof advancementadvancement ofof thethe projectsprojects
-- toto shareshare thethe experienceexperience gainedgained byby contractorscontractors
- to encourage cooperation between manufacturers
- to inform utilities of the state of the art
- to stimulate the replication of successful projects.
Fifteen projects were presented and the meeting was attended by 56
participants,participants, includingincluding representatives ofof mostmost public utilitiesutilities ofof thethe
EuropeanEuropean Community.Community. AA presentation ofof thethe installation ofof aa verticalvertical axisaxis
wind turbine, by TEMA in cooperation with VAWT Ltd., was also included in
the programme.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Piero Maria PELLO' , Board Member of
ENEL, by Dr. Corrado CORVI, Board Member of ENEA, Chairman of Italian
ISIS,ISIS, whowho welcomedwelcomed thethe participants onon behalf ofof ENEAENEA andand ENELENEL andand byby Dr.Dr.
MichaelMichael DAVIS,DAVIS, Director,Director, whowho gave, onon behalf ofof thethe CommissionCommission ofof thethe
European Communities, a short description of the demonstration programme
of the Directorate-General for Energy.
Many valuable and useful conclusions have been drawn from the Wind
Demonstration Programme, which started in 1983. Most of these are
mentionedmentioned atat thethe endend ofof thisthis publication.publication. TheThe publicationpublication alsoalso
demonstratesdemonstrates thethe developmentdevelopment ofof windwind energy inin thethe Community,Community, andand thethe
interest in this very promising source of energy.
I take this opportunity to thank all participants and the Italian
organizations for their support and their contributions to the success of
this meeting.
