These systems take advantage of the latent heat of evaporation to transfer heat with minimal temperature drop. The liquid-vapor-liquid circulation loop is closed by using the liquid flow in capillary channels to return the condensate to the evaporator. In general, the structure consists of a tube of sufficient cross ¿ection to allow the desired amount,of vapor to flow from the evaporator to the condenser with an optimum pressure drop. The actual size of the vapor tube must of course be consistent with the volume restrictions of the complete system. The vapor tube is lined with a capillary structure of relatively fine mesh. The material of which this structure is composed must be such that it is "wet" by the liquid phase of the circulating fluid at the operating temperature.
