Description
SUMMARY. — A difficult combinatorial formula known for having attracted the attention of several twentieth-century mathematicians appears without proof in the mathematical works of Li Shanlan (1811-1882). In this article we ask ourselves how traditional Chinese mathematics can contain non-trivial results, even though a priori it would seem that everything distinguishes these mathematics from what it is usually considered to be.
