Description
Violence against Women, Place and Social Space.
The ENVEFF survey results enable us to distinguish four types of interpersonal violence against women, wherever this violence occurs, be it in the couple, at work or in public space. These types are: insults, emotional abuse or psychological violence, physical abuse and sexual abuse. Their rates vary considerably according to age of women, but also to demographic, social or economic characteristics which, in turn, vary according to the place of residence and, above all, to the size of the agglomeration. Nevertheless, there are particular effects of the type of place and of lifestyles typical in such places, linked to spatial organisation, types of daily mobility and the nature and density of relationship networks. If the frequency of intimate partner violence is fairly constant whatever the agglomeration size, all types of abuse at work, and, in particular, physical and sexual assaults or abuse in public space generally increase as agglomeration size increases.
