Martial Gottraux : The social construction in the field of prevention.
Bringing down morbidity ratio of a population and fighting against the increasing cost of medical care are the objectives set by preventive ideology. Nevertheless its social consequences must be found elsewhere. After a presentation of the relations between the prao tices of prevention and the ideology which pretends to set up its rationality, the author (from the notion of informative strategies) gives a certain number of suppositions in relation with the social effects of these practices.
As far as the organization of prevention is concerned, two options are analized here : one which considers prevention as an independent and professionalized organization as opposed to the other social practices and one which sets preventive rationality into a more general frame, within movements and organizations which also have other objectives in view. L'idéologie préventive fixe comme objectifs à la médecine préventive la réduction de la morbidité de la population et la lutte contre l'augmentation des coûts des soins médicaux. Ses effets sociaux semblent cependant se situer ailleurs.
Après une présentation des relations entre les pratiques de prévention et l'idéologie qui prétend en fonder la rationalité, l'auteur émet un certain nombre d'hypothèses relatives aux effets sociaux de ces pratiques, à partir de la notion de stratégies informatives. Deux options principales concernant l'organisation de la prévention sont analysées : celle qui fait de la prévention une organisation professionnalisée et autonome par rapport aux autres pratiques sociales, et celle qui replace la rationalité préventive dans son cadre plus général, au sein de mouvements et d'organisations qui poursuivent également d'autres objectifs.
