Description
Lives and Words of Young Illiterates. This study is an analysis of interviews with illiterate young people 12 to 16 years old. They speak about their way of life, their lack of schooling, the links they have with educated people and their views of the future. In total, 125 semi-structured interviews were analysed, from Cameroon, Niger and Burkina Faso. Their lives and their opinions match to a considerable extent, in spite of the diverse research locations. The socio-economic context, the sociocultural environment and situation of schooling and literacy account for differences between one region and another.
