Description

Annales. Économies, Sociétés, Civilisations - Année 1993 - Volume 48 - Numéro 3 - Pages 773-798
On the Historiography of the Holocaust.
This paper suggests that with historical writing on the Holocaust we have passed from literature conditioned by few, grand visions, to body of writing shaped by discrete, not necessarily interconnecting perspectives. With significant exceptions, historical writers today are uncomfortable with the frameworks they have inherited. They spend much of their time pointing to variety, paradoxes, complexities and contradictions. Their writing is less informed by single, unitary perspectives than was the case with their predecessors, and they have advanced our knowledge on many, smaller fronts, rather than the massive, coordinated campaigns of those who went before .
