- Migrations of populations from the North have long been cited to explain the appearance of the ceramic Neolithic in the southern Levant. Excavations at Ain Ghazal and other 6th millennium sites in the region have produced abundant evidence to reject this view, at least for the Yarmoukian Pottery Neolithic. This evidence is demonstrated in terms of chronology, stratigraphy, architecture, lithic manufacture, subsistence economy, and other sociocultural aspects. Instead, the Yarmoukian must be viewed as a direct evolution from local PPNC inhabitant of the southern Levant.
