The aim of this European PES network is to improve the modernisation of the Public Employment Service delivery system, and in particular to support Public Employment services to implement the European Employment Strategy. This publication brings together the following two working papers prepared by the European PES network reflecting the key topics which were discussed by PES network in 2000. 1) The service model of Public Employment Services to support the fight against long term unemployment 2) The contribution of Public Employment Services to local development. The aim of these working papers is to support Public Employment Services to improve their activities by providing information on good practices and working methods developed in EU/EEA countries.
