Description
This study considers the reception of American super-hero comics in the USA and France. It uses mail published in magazines over the past three decades as well as a series of interviews to show that this medium, for a considerable part of its readership, constitutes more than a reproduction of a traditional masculine identity. It is also a place in which a problematic identity is learned. Thus, the learning of gender identities cannot be described as an unequivocal process of inculcation of predetermined roles.
