Introduction
This volume is an updated version of the third edition of the Com
pendium of Community provisions on social security which was
published in 1988. It takes into account all of the developments in
Community law until 1 Jun e 1994.
The principle advantage of this publication lies in the fact that all
the relevant sources of Community law are consolidated in one
single work of reference.
Part One of the Compendium reproduces the consolidated text of
Regulations (EEC) 1408/71 and 574/72. All amendments adopted
before 1 June 1994 have been included.
The basic legislative texts are followed in Part Two by the de
cisions and recommendations of the Administrative Commission
on Social Security for Migrant Workers. The judgments of the
Court of Justice, as published in the Official Journal of the Euro
pean Communites, are arranged in chronological order in Part
Three.
Part Four of the Compendium contains a commentary on the
Regulations, following the order of the provisions of Regulation
1408/71. The subject matter of the commentary is necessarily lim
ited in scope. Its purpose is to inform the reader of the general
objectives of the Community's legislation in the field of social
security, and to encourage him or her to consult the decisions of
the Court of Justice of the European Communities and of the
Administrative Commission.
Finally, Part Five contains a number of lists and tables in which
several of the sources of information discussed in the first four
parts are summarized. It includes a list of the decisions and a list
of the model forms drafted by the Administrative Commission for
the application of the Regulations, a list of preambles to Regula
tions 1408/71 and 574/72 and the subsequent amending
tions, as well as a table of judgments of the Court of Justice. PART ONE
