 S10 Multilingual Body 11/28/01 8:17 PM Page 2IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSWhen using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the riskof fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including thefollowing:1.Read and understand all instructions.2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on theproduct. The symbol identifies and alerts the user to thepresence of important operating and service instructions.3.Unplug this product from the wall outlet beforecleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use adamp cloth for cleaning.4. Do not locate base unit near water, for example,near a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundrytub, in a wet basement or near a swimming pool.5.Do not place this product on an unstable cart, standor table.The product may fall, causing serious damage to theproduct.6.Slots and openings in the base unit and the bottomor back are provided for ventilation,to protect it fromoverheating; these openings must not be blocked or covered. Theopenings should never be blocked by placing the product in thebed, sofa, rug or other similar surface. This product should neverbe placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This productshould not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.7.Do not allow anything to rest on the telephone connection cord.Do not locate this product where the cord willbe abused by persons walking on it.2IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS8.Do not overload outlets and extension cords as thiscan result in the risk of fire or electric shock.9.Never push objects of any kind into this productthrough base unit slots as they may touch dangerous voltagepoints or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or electricshock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.10.To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product, but take it to qualified service personnel when service or repair work is required. Opening orremoving covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or otherrisks. Incorrect reassembly can cause electric shock when the product is subsequently used.11.Avoid using telephone equipment during an electricalstorm.There may be a remote risk of electric shock fromlightning.12.Do not use the telephone equipment to report a gasleak in the vicinity of the leak.3

Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions because improperadjustments of other controls may result in damage and willoften require extensive work by a qualified technician torestore the product to normal operation.e)If the product has been dropped or the base unit has been damaged.f)If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.4IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS14.Never install telephone wiring during a lightningstorm.15.Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unlessthe jack is specifically designed for wet locations.16.Never touch uninsulated telephone wires orterminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.17.Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.18.Use only with Class 2 power source.Plantronics Part No. 45671-01, rated at an input voltage of 120VAC, 60 Hz and an output voltage of 9 VDC, 300 mA.Plantronics Part No. 45671-02, rated at an input voltage of 220VAC-240 VAC, 50 Hz and an output voltage of 9 VDC, 300 mA.19.This product requires AC power in order to operate.In order to have phone service during a power outage, haveanother telephone available that is powered only by the telephone line.20.Keep all product cords and cables away from operating machinery.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS5
 S10 Multilingual Body 11/28/01 8:17 PM Page 6STEP 1PUTESThe S10 Telephone Headset System is designed for use with anexisting telephone.Turn the S10 base over and insert the Headset Holder 1.Remove the handset cord from your telephone and plug it into theS10 Handset Jack 13.Using the Short Cord 17, connect the S10 Telephone Line Jack 14to your telephone handset jack.Connect the AC Power Adapter 18to the S10 AC Power AdapterJack 12and a wall outlet.Plug the Headset Cord 19into the Headset Jack 7.Put on Headset. Press the Headset/Handset Switch 6(HandsetIndicator Light 8on) and pickup the Handset. Slide theConfiguration Switch 16until you hear a clear dial tone throughthe Headset. Trying other settings will not harm the amplifier oryour telephone.6GFSTEP 2USING THE HEADSETThe Headset included with the S10 Telephone Headset can beused with the Adjustable Headband 21or with one of the Ear Hooks 22.HEADBAND USESnap the Headband 21into the back of the Headset Assembly.Press the Ear Cushion Assembly 26onto the Headset Assembly23,aligning the notch in the ring with the Voice Boom 24.Place the Headset on either ear and adjust the Headset to acomfortable position by moving the Adjustable Headband 21.Position the Voice Boom 24near the corner of your mouth.EAR HOOK USEPress the Pivot Ball Ring 25onto the Headset Assembly 23.Insert one of the Ear Hooks 22into the Pivot Ball. You may need to try each size to find the most comfortable fit. Slip the hook over your ear and position the Voice Boom 24near the corner of your mouth.CLOTHING CLIPThe Clothing Clip 20keeps the Headset free from the weight ofthe cord. Attach the clip to your clothing at about chest level.Allow enough slack in the cord (approximately 6 inches) to permit your head to move without pulling on the Headset or theClothing Clip.You are now ready to make or receive calls.7ABCD

(Headset indicator Light 8on.)Lift the Handset off-hook.Make sure Mute Button9is off (Mute Indicator Light 4off).If you don’t hear a dial tone, see Troubleshooting(page 10).Dial a friend or co-worker. When your party answers, speak normally.If your friend or co-worker cannot hear you or you hear a buzzor hum, move the Configuration Switch 16to another setting.Adjust how loud you sound to the other party by first moving theTransmit Switch 15, then fine-tuning with the Speak VolumeControl 10.Adjust the volume of the other party’s voice by using the ListenVolume Control 3.Test the Mute function by pressing the Mute Button 9(Indicator4on). Release the Mute Button (Indicator off).8ESTEP 4RECEIVING A CALLWith the Headset in position, when your telephone notifies you of an incoming call, press the Headset/Handset Switch 6, (Headset Indicator 8on), place the Handset off-hook. Begin speaking.The volume of the incoming call can be adjusted by moving the Listen Volume Control 3on the front of the S10.MUTE FEATUREWhen you activate the Mute Button 9, the calling party cannothear your voice but you will be able to hear the calling party.TONE FEATUREThe treble and bass of the incoming call can be adjusted bymoving the Tone Control 11.9E
