Description

Whether Africa is developed or not, depends on how and what one addresses. Development is relative. Nonetheless, the fact is: Africa developed Europe; and thereby became underdeveloped. Addressed academically, the notion of development creates many questions amongst which are: Development in what? Whose development? Development for whom? Who defines development? In this volume, the development dealt with is polygonal; and touches on politico-economic sequels which also affect the social aspect. No doubt. Africa is abundantly rich in terms of resource and culture. Paradoxically, however, Africa is less developed economically compared to Europe thanks to the history of unequal encounters, among other reasons. We cannot emphasise enough the fact that Africa’s underdevelopment is the price of the development of Europe which is based on historical realities gyrating around Europe’s criminal past wherein slavery and colonialism enabled Europe to spawn its future capital and investment. How can anyone quibble about Europe’s development resulting from perpetual plunderage of Africa with impunity committed by European treasure-hunting adventurers? This volume prescribes Africa’s restorative recompense as the only way forward for the duo and the world.

iv Acknowledgements

This book was enabled to come into being by the humungous
contribution from my wife Nesaa that I cherish and relish who, as
always, has never complained about my academic adventures. Her
cooperation and support are second to none. I remember how I used
to change many family topics into academic discourse in order to get
her responses on various issues I raised in this compendium. Boring,
as they always are, academic topics and its general narrative need a
person who seriously care, especially when such a person is
specialised in a different discipline.
So, too, I am indebted to:
My young professors our children Ng’ani, Nkuzi and Nkwazi Jr.
who oft like to help even where they do not know what they are
doing. They have always been around my computer giving me a hard
time of explaining almost everything since they believe that their dad
knows everything. One important thing I appreciate about these little
creatures is the fact that they know that their dad makes book.
My brother colleague and friends professor, Eliakim Sibanda
(University of Winnipeg) spent much of his precious time digging
hole on my manuscript so as to improve it. Brother professor
Munyaradzi Mawere (Great Zimbabwe University) spent his precious
time to assess the title not to mention my mentor professor Sean
Byrne who reminded the importance of touching on her-story along
with his-story as Europe concocted, doctored, desecrated and
fabricated it. Brother Artwell Nhemachena (University of Namibia),
as well, liked the idea and told me to tweak it.
My friends and readers Salih Hassan Ibrahim aka Darfur
(Winnipeg, Canada) and Sirili Akko (Arusha, Tanzania and friends
who always want to be the first to grab the copy of whatever comes
out; and Langaa my publishers that have always been instrumental to
my writing adventure, to all I am, indeed, beh.

vi Preface

Although Africa has sadly always been seen as a doomed continent,
it played a very pivotal role in the development of others, particularly
Europe. This is because its actual history has never been known.
What is known is a besmirched, distasteful, miswritten and
misrepresented story of the white man on Africa or his-story that is
taken as the history of Africa. Factually, without Africa’s contribution
through blood and resources, Europe the world knows of today
would not be or look like it is. It is only through Africa’s profound
and humongous contribution that produced the Europe the world
knows of today. Through slavery, colonialism and neocolonialism,
