Every serious student, missionary, pastor, and evangelist must read this volume!
Joseph M. Holden, PhD President, Veritas International University Author, The Harvest Handbook of Apologetics
I ve been wishing for a long time that a book like this would be published! This is a truly accessible guide to world religions with just the right amount of detail and written in a compelling way. I have no doubt it will be my go-to recommendation on the subject for years to come.
Natasha Crain , speaker and author of three books, including Talking with Your Kids about Jesus
The Popular Handbook of World Religions is an excellent resource with a wealth of insight on an array of critical topics for anyone ministering cross-culturally. Rather than settle for dry, encyclopedic entries, the contributors use an engaging narrative style that provides valuable context without sacrificing nuance. The chapters offer balanced perspectives with concision and clarity, which makes the book useful for practitioners and scholars alike.
Jackson Wu Theologian in Residence, Mission ONE
The twenty-first century church must return and recommit to Jesus s command to make disciples who make disciples. This excellent handbook encourages and equips disciple-making among people of the world s religions. Not only are the authors intent on describing the religions accurately and graciously, but they are also effective in helping us carry out our core mission: to make disciples of all nations.
Bobby Harrington Point Leader of Renew.org and Discipleship.org
One of the biggest apologetics challenges today is explaining how Christianity can be the one true religion in light of the various claims made by the world s religions. The Popular Handbook of World Religions not only provides a wealth of information about the distinctive religions of the world, but it also serves as a tool chest for Christians who desire to be informed and to interact with people who embrace these religions. This work is a valuable resource for Christian education, evangelism, and apologetics.

Acknowledgments
I am so grateful to so many people for making this project possible. Thanks to Win Corduan for motivating my interest and guiding my study in world religions. Thanks to Lindsey Medenwaldt for not only contributing the chapter on Jehovah s Witnesses but also doing an excellent job looking over all the chapters and making the project far better as a result. Her help was invaluable. Thanks to my editors at Harvest House for entrusting me with this project. I am thankful for getting to work with more than 20 capable scholars who agreed to contribute chapters.
I will always gladly make use of any opportunity to thank my wife, the lovely Susanna McCoy. I don t deserve such a wonderful wife, and I sure am grateful for her. I m also grateful for our five children. They fill our home with joy, each in his or her unique way.
Jesus has given us a very clear purpose: to make disciples. I m thankful to my parents, David and Nancy, for discipling me throughout my childhood. I m thankful to be working with the Renew Network ( renew.org ), an organization whose purpose is to fuel disciple-making. I m also thankful to be able to offer this book toward that same end, that we as His disciples might become dedicated and effective disciple-makers.

Introduction
Daniel McCoy
I f you re like me, you ve got bookshelves crammed with well-intentioned purchases. In fact, multiple shelves aren t enough; book stacks spring up around the house like firework stands in summer. There are the theology books on what Christians believe and apologetics books on why Christians believe. There s that stack of Christian books on marriage you have been meaning to read. With parenting growing more complicated, you really ought to get to those books on how to be a Christian parent. There s the devotional you started twice but never finished-last January and the January before that. And of course, as your preacher keeps reminding you, there are lots of great plans for reading through the Bible itself.
When there s already not enough time to read all the books you d like to about your own religion, why should you take the time to study a book on other religions? Sure, there are theology students who read such books as part of a three-credit-hour class. But why should everyday Christians bother to learn the basics about other
