M ovies have only been around for a little over 120 years and the process of making them has changed dramatically since they were first made in the 1890s.

ELECTRIC CAMERAS AND LIGHTS
P rior to the 1920s, all movies were silent. The actors had to use a lot of emotion in their faces and gestures to get across their ideas. A way to add sound to moving pictures hadn’t been invented yet. Cameras using electric motors were used to make the films. Electric lights were critical to filming a movie. They were also critical to projecting a movie so that audiences could see it after it was filmed.
