INTRODUCTION

This book includes 113 English tests, each of which has 20 items, making a total
of 2060 items. The book covers six language areas: grammar (14 tests), vocabulary (42
tests), spelling (24 tests), pronunciation (15 tests), punctuation (12 tests), and
comprehension (6 tests).

The maximal time of every test is 20 minutes, and every test has 20 items only.
Correct answers are given in the margin. There is usually a blank where the student can
write his answer (if necessary). However, some items have no blanks because what is
required is only to mark one option (a. b. c. or d).

Before taking the test, the student must cover the correct answers in the margin.
After answering all the test items, the student is to check his own answers against the
correct answers and give himself a grade out of 20.

These tests are basically directed to university students specializing in English,
but they may be taken by anyone interested in English. At the beginning of the book,
there is a table where the examinee may record the grade he has got for each test, for a
group of tests, or for all the tests. With a simple process of calculation, an average out
of 100 can always be computed at any stage and for any purpose.

HOW TO TAKE THE TESTS

The student should follow these regulations of test-taking, step by step:

1. First, cover thecorrect answersin the margin. Donot look at them except after
taking the whole test.

Answer all the 20items ofthe testswithout looking at thecorrect answers.

Then compareyour answersto the correctanswers shown in the margin, and
see which of your answers are correct and which ones are not.

Give each correct answer of yours one grade, and give yourself a grade out of 20 for
each test.

Record your grade on the test table at the beginning of this book.

You may calculate your averagefor each skillseparately: a grammar grade,
vocabulary grade, spelling grade, pronunciation grade, punctuation grade, and
comprehension grade. Thus, you can have six separate grades, one for each skill.
Such a grade can be out of 20 or 100.

You may also get an average of all the 113 tests.Find the total of your 113 grades,
then divide it by 113 and you get an averaged grade out of 20, which can be adjusted
to be out of 100.
