Introducing Hungary
What do you know about Hungary? Maybe you have eaten Hungarian goulash. But do you know about Hungary’s history, how its people spend their time, or what the country looks like?
A unique nation Hungary is a country in central Europe with a fascinating and tragic history, and a colourful folkculture. It covers an area of 93,028square kilometres (35,918 square miles), which is slightly smaller than Scotland and Wales put together. Hungary’s countryside includes rolling plains and hills, and beautiful rivers and lakes. Hungarians are proud of their country and their national character has been affected by their war-torn past.
Changing times Over the centuries, there have been many disputes about which lands belong to the Hungarians, and the lands have beenoccupiedby foreign powers. The Hungary we recognize today has only existed as a nation since 1920. In more recent years, Hungary has become a popular tourist destination and life in the country has changed dramatically.
Read on to find out what makes Hungary and its people so unusual and interesting.
