The internet and social media: what are the issues?
Sometîmes ît’s dîIcult to apprecîate a revolutîon when you’re în the mîddle o ît. But have no doubt, weareîn a revolutîon rîght now – the înternet revolutîon. And ît’s at least as împortant as the prîntîng revolutîon o 500 years ago.
Before the internet The înternet îs changîng almost every part o our lîves, încludîng the way we work, study, shop, socîalîze and have un. The easîest way to understand thîs îs to look at how we lîved beore the înternet became popular. Beore the early 1990s, î you wanted to research somethîng or school, your only optîon was to go to a lîbrary and nd a book about it. If you wanted to buy something, you had to go to a shop. If you wanted to communicate with friends, you could phone them, write them a letter or visit them.
A good thing? Of course, we can still do all these things. But the internet has expanded our options. At the same time, the internet has made everything much more convenient. And that makes it a good thing ... or does it? This book will look at the ways in which the internet and social media have changed our lives for the better, as well as the problems and dangers of the online world.
