Description

What makes Michelle Obama extraordinary? Read this book to find out. We explore her childhood in Chicago, USA, and her education leading to Harvard Law School. We look at her career as a lawyer, and when she met her future husband, Barack Obama. This would lead to her becoming the First Lady of the United States, the wife of the President. Read about others' perspectives on her life, and how she has broken boundaries compared to other women in the past, including other presidents' wives.

Making history
On 20 January 2009, more than a million people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in the United States to watch history in the making. Around the world, millions more watched by television or on the Internet as Barack Obama was sworn in as the first AfricanAmerican US president. Standing next to him was his best friend and strongest supporter, his wife Michelle Obama.
Nearly four years later, after being elected for a second term as president, Barack told Americans, “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago.” He has called Michelle “the boss” and “his rock”. So who is Michelle Obama?
Michelle held Abraham Lincoln’s Bible as her husband became the first AfricanAmerican president of the United States.
