About Antarctica
Antarctica is the coolest place in the world – literally! It is colder and windier than anywhere else on Earth. It is the southernmost continent, surrounded by the icy waters of the Southern Ocean. Almost 99 per cent of this land is covered in ice. It can be an extremely dangerous place for humans.
Antarctica is the only place on the planet where no one lives permanently. There are no towns or villages. But there are about 70 research stations scatteredaround the continent. Thousands of scientists stay in these stations each year while exploring this amazing place.
