In medieval times in Europe, the most fearsome fighters were the knights. With their powerful horses, strong armor, weapons, and training, they could usually beat any enemy with ease— except another knight.

So if you lived back then, how would you become a knight? Read on and find out!

What was a knight, anyway?
From the ninth to the sixteenth centuries in Europe, the most powerful unit on a battlefield was a knight. And a squadron of knights, charging together, could make the ground shake under the opposing army’s feet and make their courage flee. Until gunpowder weapons became available that could fire through a knight’s armor, in the 16th century, knights were like unstoppable tanks.

Away from battle, knights were examples of honor and national spirit. For young boys of that period, becoming a knight would be the dream of a lifetime.
