n this book, we’re going to talk about the War of the Roses. So, let’s get right to it!
he War of the Roses happened between the years 1455 and 1487. It wasn’t a constant fight. There were two powerful families fighting in the war and they were related by blood. Their battle was over who would be the next king of England. By the end of the war, one family was in power and the other was destroyed.

ne of the groups was called the House of Lancaster and they used a white rose as their emblem. The other group was called the House of York. This group had a red rose as their emblem. These two families were both descendants from the heirs of Edward III.
THE WAR OF THE ROSES STARTS
n 1399 AD, Richard II was king of England. His cousin, Henry Bolinbroke overthrew Richard II and became king of England. He was King Henry IV and had been the Duke of Lancaster before he became king.

hen the king died, his son Henry V took the throne. Henry V didn’t have a long reign. When he died suddenly, his heir Henry VI inherited the throne. The problem was that Henry VI was not old enough to be king.
