Description

This play was written as part of an evaluation of Africas oldest and most diverse rainforest conservation initiative in the Korup area, with the aim of highlighting and sharing some lessons learnt from the creation of the Korup National Park, through a period of full activity, to when activities were considerably reduced. It is a fine blend of the results of the evaluation and some carefully developed fictional, artistic materials for the achievement of an overall dramatic effect. Ekpe Inyang gives an informed artistic touch to achieve dramatic effects, succinctly relating the story of Cameroons first rainforest national park, Korup.

Note This play was written as part of a three-month consultancy offered by GTZ in 2003 for the evaluation of the Korup Project with the aim of highlighting and sharing some lessons learnt from the creation of the Korup National Park, through a period of full activity, to that year when activities were considerably reduced. It is a fine blend of the results of the evaluation and some carefully developed fictional, artistic materials for the achievement of an overall dramatic effect. The names of the village characters are either identifiable pseudonyms or names that typically represent one of three types of village communities of the Korup National Park Area—park villages (those inside the park), peripheral zone villages (those that share boundaries with the park or are close to those that bound the park), and support zone villages (those far from the park boundaries but which also receive support from the Korup Project).
