Insights from Chapter 1
#1
I wanted to title this book I’ll Show You, because it represents me, my story, and who I am. It shows both sides of my personality. I’m an introvert, and I didn’t understand that for a long time. But it’s also how I lead by example.
#2
I was always told about how gifted I was when it came to basketball. I could get places on the court without scoring, and I never played a game against any of my brothers because they knew I was better than them even though they were so much older.
#3
I’ve been making history every time I’m on the court. I’m a hooper, and hoopers can do anything. I feel that 25th shot to win the game is going in. I feel like I’ll make the right play at the right time.
#4
I think my greatest gift is listening to people. I’m more observant than I am outgoing. I didn’t realize that until I was 25 or 26. I’m used to being around people, but after a while I need time to recharge my batteries.
#5
I would isolate myself from friends and family a bit, but not in the way where I was totally gone. I wanted to show them that I could handle everything by myself. I got that from my mom.
#6
When I got to the league, I was ready to play with the Bulls’ young vets. I was being more the point guard, and we were winning in overtime. It was a seven-game series against the Celtics, and it was me finding out that not only could I play with y’all, but I was playing against some Hall of Famers.
#7
I learned to play with a purpose from Kobe Bryant and Calipari. They taught me that every dribble had a purpose, not just to embarrass someone. It was a Chicago and New York thing, and I learned to respect it.
#8
I always had the mentality that if I got another opportunity, I would make the most of it. I was sure that if I got the opportunity, I would be signed to a good deal. I was peeling back the layers of my story, and people were seeing that I was a dawg.
