Acknowledgements

I would like to acknowledge those positive optimistic role models in my life; especially, those people who were instructional in the formative years of my life. My beloved grandmother Othello Rankin who radiated optimism throughout her life sharing and giving herself away to others and important causes. I would like to thank Optimist International for their focus on bringing out the best in kids and providing a forum for others to volunteer; thereby, developing their personal leadership skills in their lives. I would like to thank a few friends who have served as sounding boards in my life such as Jackie Hirsch, Raymond Stowe, Doug Prasek, Duane Ullman and Brett McDougle. I want to thank the talented Sara Taverer for the cover design and for Jo Landers for her typesetting. Lastly, I want to thank you for your faith and confidence in me to produce a work that can assist you and those people who you love and care about in the transformational power of the philosophy of Optimism. As Emerson taught, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” It is my ardent desire that you tap into your unlimited potential for a quality of life that you always dreamed of for yourself.

Publisher’s Message

It is our pleasure to publish James M. Rankin latest work entitled, The Philosophy of Optimism Manifesto. Many of our readers have followed the development of the philosophy and the writings style of James Rankin. James’ first book was entitled; The Power of the Creed, this book profiled the powerful tenets of the Optimist Creed that was written by Christian Larson in the early 1900’s. The book was a treatise on the creed based on Rankin’s research into the writings of Christian Larson. Our readers have enjoyed the unusual talent of Rankin as he demonstrated with his left brain/right brain writing style in his follow up book entitled, Live the Creed, which shared the wisdom of the creed in an emotional moving story format. We will be releasing James’ new book, Living the Creed for the Teen, which is written for a younger reader in the spring of 2018. Our readers were treated to the 10 th Anniversary of the Creed which was expanded to include more life changing material along with a chapter on 21 days to a Positive Mindset along with ten sacred scrolls that enhanced and enriched each tenet of the creed.

James’ research and intensive study produced a work entitled, Theory O2 that emphasized the value of personal ownership fused with the dynamic power of Optimism. He pointed out that one needs to embrace ownership of one’s self and all the dimensions of life that included self evaluation, self improvement, self control, self reliance, self- enlightenment along with the political and religious aspects for the self along with his insights into Optimism.

James accomplished one of his dreams by completing his first novel entitled, The Source of the Shining. As a longtime resident of Galveston Island, he wrote a book about a young man who loses everything to a destructive hurricane and rebuilds his life through a magical journey into self development and optimism. His latest work ties everything together in an easy to follow treatment of elevating Optimism into a practical transforming philosophy that warrants carefully consideration for the incorporation into the fabric of our culture and to be infused into the human heart.

Author’s Message:

My newest project could be categorized as my lifetime work in the area of philosophy, and more specifically on the subject of Optimism. It all started when I was invited to attend an Optimist club meeting on Galveston Island. The members all recited a Creed that captured my attention. Since that time I have written extensively on the power of Optimism through books, articles, speeches and training. I have seen first hand the healing and transforming power of Optimism in companies, communities and families. I have seen individuals change their lives by adopting the philosophy of Optimism. In the Optimism Manifesto, I have outlined the prerequisites and elements of the philosophy.

In addition, the principles and doctrines are examined for the philosophy to withstand the scrutiny of critics in the formation of Optimism as a legitimate philosophy. In this project, you will learn the ten principles along with the twelve doctrines of the philosophy. I discussed the many dimensions of the Optimism philosophy that included the science, language, spiritual, and poetry of this transformational knowledge. You will also learn about the five types of brain waves and how to stimulate them along with the different dimension of the self along with the seven point checklist for Optimistic behavior, and twenty living changing affirmations. You will have access to the Optimistic Decision Making Model. It is my hope that this philosophy will be taught in the home and schools throughout the world in order to nurture the seeds of human development in all people, and will grow into meaningful and satisfying fruit in one’s life.

Introduction to the Optimism Manifesto:

The Optimism Manifesto was written to open your mind and heart to the solution to the mystery of the essence of existence. As you read, study, and absorb this life changing transformational philosophy you will want to ask yourself several questions such as:
Do you have the habit of thinking the very best in every situation that you are faced with in your life? Do you expect to win every time you are challenged in any area of your life? Do you marvel at others who seem to be always positive and cheerful in their day to day operations? Do you feel true joy and fulfillment in your life? If not, why not? You are like soft clay that can be shaped into anything that you choose for yourself.
I often wonder about the age old question, ‘What is man?’ The poet enlightens us with his words.
“I am Man and on this day I finally understand.
I am from every nation, a miracle of creation;
Although my face is black, brown, yellow and pale;
As a man I can not fail;
At best, I am the answer, at worst a cancer;
Yet, this should be known long after the Northern winds has blown;
Only I can change the man, the man that I am.”

Physically I have studied that man is a combination of systems: The foundation is the skeletal systems that are comprised of 206 separate bones that are engineered with a series of complex cartilages and ties together with tight tendons and loose ligaments. To add meat to the bone of man we have the muscular system made up of skeletal muscle, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle for a grand total of 650 muscles to make man mobile. The nervous system with two paramount parts the Central Nervous system and the peripheral. Man is fueled by oxygen with the assistance of man’s respiratory system that takes in this valuable asset and exhales the carbon dioxide.

The physical man is protected by the immune system and the lymphatic system that work together to fight off pathogens that could weaken the body and shorten life itself. The urinary system carries out waste from the body in order to maintain balance and health. Those of you who choose to procreate there is the reproductive system. This whole series of systems is wrapped up in the integumentary system; a fancy word for skin.

The whole point of this information is to come to the realization that this is not man, for as others have shared, all of these systems can be found in our favorite pet be it a dog, cat or even a bird. Nor, was this complex remarkable system created by chance. No, man must be much more than the physical, much more than science. Also, human being needs to have a life philosophy that fuel the physical, stimulate the mental and molds the spiritual nature of us all. In order to live out the true meaning of your potential, it is important to adopt as a philosophy of li
