The workbook is designed for use with Marshall B. Rosenberg’s book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. It is intended for: 1. Persons new to Nonviolent Communication who seek a comprehensive curriculum in order to learn and apply the basic principles of NVC. 2. Groups who want to practice NVC regularly. 3. People who have been touched by NVC and want to pass on the gift.

There are fourteen assignments in this curriculum that correlate with the fourteen chapters of Marshall B. Rosenberg’s book, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. Each assignment consists of two parts: Reading Review and Individual Practice.
Insights from Chapter 2

When practicing NVC, you must first understand the concepts. Then you must commit to a schedule of practice, and follow through. This workbook provides you with assignments and sample responses to help you structure a fourteen-week course.
Insights from Chapter 3

When joining or creating a group, it is important to be clear about what you hope to gain and what you are willing to give. While most groups serve several purposes, one group might focus on developing fluency in using the process, while another might emphasize the sense of community inspired by the spirit of NVC.

A recommended structure for using this workbook is the leaderful practice circle. The circle evokes inclusiveness, balanced participation, and community. Leadership may be rotated so that each member has an opportunity to contribute and to practice facilitating, teaching, and guiding the group.

You can create a space where there is no separation between me and them, where there is only infinite compassion. You can do this by opening and closing each gathering with a reading, candle, music, story, silence, bell, or other symbol.

We are changing the habits of a lifetime as we learn to speak from the heart. We are able to welcome our own and one another’s stuttering, stumbling, and silences as signs that we are replacing automatic pilot with conscious speech.
