Description

The revised and enlarged second edition of J. Dudley Woodberry’s From Seed to Fruit expands on the next stage of the ongoing collaborative research and reflections of many people from many organizations desiring to bless Muslims. Seven additional chapters survey major trends in global Islam today and explore themes that prove to have considerable influence on fruitfulness, including a new chapter on building Christlike relationships with Muslims.
The Global Trends Research Group has continued to update the demographic materials on Muslim people groups, their access to Christian witness, and when and how Christian groups covenant to provide meaningful access.
From Seed to Fruit presents the most recent worldwide research on witness to Christ among Muslim peoples, using biblical images from nature to show the interaction between God's activity and human responsibility in blessing these peoples.

Foreword: The Vision
Rick Love
Revelation 5:9 provided the inspiration for the Global Trends and Fruitful Practices Consultation. In this heavenly scene, the Lamb of God is worshipped:
You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God members of every tribe and language and people and nation ( tniv ).
During our gathering in Southeast Asia, we experienced a foretaste of the multi-ethnic diversity of this harvest. What a privilege it was to gather with almost 500 brothers and sisters from around the globe. We analyzed Global Trends, discerned Fruitful Practices, enjoyed stimulating fellowship, and celebrated what God is doing around the world.
Revelation 5:9 not only inspires us but also guides us into the future. The Lamb of God has purchased people from every tribe and language and people and nation. Because of this, we know that there will be followers of Jesus from every Muslim ethnic group worshipping around the throne of God. The cross of Christ secures this future harvest. We do not know when this vision will be fulfilled, but we have a cross-centered certainty that it will be!
This rock-solid certainty of the harvest is based on the cross of Christ. Because of this, there should be no place for triumphalism or superiority in our lives. We are saved by the cross, and our service should be marked by the cross. If we follow the Lamb who was slain, our lives should reflect his meekness and gentleness. Our cross-centered certainty should be matched by a cross-centered humility .
The cross also guarantees the rich diversity of the future harvest: the Lamb of God has purchased men and women from every language, tribe, people, and nation. Revelation 5:9 specifically describes cultural diversity as part of God’s plan. This Consultation previewed the diversity of the future. As followers of Jesus from many cultures and countries, we gathered together to learn from one another. Our goal was to become more fruitful in offering the Gospel of peace to Muslims.
Our time of celebration on the last night of the Consultation was one of the highlights for me. The joyful multi-colored throng of culturally diverse people leading us in worship on stage was a foretaste of heaven. This is where Revelation 5:9 leads us—to worship. Back at the heavenly scene, the worship of the Lamb continues (Revelation 5:10) by saying that we are a kingdom of priests. The ultimate goal of our gathering and laboring is doxology !

“We are laborers together with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:9, kjv
The present volume was far more of a team project than possibly anything on this topic before. First there was the vision by emerging leaders shortly after the turn of the millennium to see, by the grace of God, effective efforts to plant Jesus-fellowships among all Muslim people groups. Most of the people are unnamed, leaving the glory to God and not wanting to cause difficulties for their callings around the world.
The thousands who became involved in the subsequent surveys, discussions, case studies, and testimonies again are unnamed, but this book would not have been possible without them. The same can be said of the many involved in the analysis since the Consultation in Southeast Asia in the spring of 2007.
However, there are some behind the scenes whom we must mention. Jennifer Orona served as the administrator and copyeditor of the entire book with competence and grace, despite other pressing duties and severe sickness in her family. I offer special thanks to Darrell and Linda Dorr, who, through the editorial process, offered wise counsel and helpful proofreading. Sherry Charis served well as the copyeditor of the Fruitful Practices section, which involved mountains of information following the Consultation.
Additionally, a number of people pitched in at difficult times, such as Chris and Jaime Hantla, Minh Ha Nguyen, the Knowledge Stewardship Team, and ot
