PRAISE FOR
P RAYING WITH A UTHORITY
The Body of Christ stands at an incredible crossroads. At these crossroads also stands the plan of the enemy to stop God’s kingdom from moving forward. But God—He gives His people authority to open up the way ahead! If ever there is a book needed at this time, it is Praying with Authority . The prayer movement makes its shift this decade from supplication to declaration and proclamation. Read this book and it will help you make the shift into supernatural praying and change the atmosphere and society where you live.

To teach about authority one must know what authority is and have experience operating in it. Barbara Wentroble qualifies on both levels. This is why she was able to write Praying with Authority with such effectiveness. Her dynamic teaching style will lift us to more effective prayer—to see God’s kingdom come to Earth.

I love Barbara! She is a no-nonsense kind of writer. In Praying with Authority she gives practical information for everyone, regardless if one is a beginner or a seasoned intercessor. Her stories are great too! Read it.

DEDICATION
I gratefully dedicate this book to Falma Rufus, the international prayer coordinator for my ministry. Falma, you have helped me accomplish great exploits in the kingdom of God. Only the Lord and eternity will ever reveal the gratitude in my heart for your love and faithfulness. Thank you for being who you are and giving your time and life for God’s purposes.
I also dedicate this book to the Wentroble Christian Ministries intercessors in Dallas, Texas. You are a team that is unsurpassed! God has heard the many hours of late-night prayers you have prayed. How thankful I am that the Lord put us together!
Thank you, Augusta Underwood, and the intercessors in Wichita, Kansas. Thank you, also, to the hundreds of other WCM intercessors who pray for me on a regular basis. This book is a result of your labor of love in intercession. You and the Lord made it happen. God gave me the best when He gave you to me!
May this book release intercessors around the world into a higher level of powerful prayer. May we continue together to help shape history through the awesome privilege of intercession.
Above all, I dedicate this book to the Lord Jesus Christ. Without You, I can do nothing. May You receive great glory and honor from a new breed of intercessors in the nations of the world.
C ONTENTS
Chapter 1
Help! I Need More Power in My Prayers
Many factors can hinder prayers from being answered. One of the major hindrances is a lack of understanding of the authority available to believers in intercession.
Chapter 2
Understanding Authority
Authority is the power, or right, to give commands, enforce obedience, take action or make final decisions. God’s authority, delegated to man in the Garden, was for the purpose of extending His Kingdom; today’s delegated authority should accomplish the same purpose.
Chapter 3
Identifying Boundaries
Boundaries served two purposes in Old Testament times: to protect the inhabitants within the boundary, and to limit the access of enemies to the territory. Intercessors must recognize and respect the boundaries they have been given in intercession.
Chapter 4
The Spirit of Boldness
Jesus paid the price for believers to come to Him in a spirit of boldness. A spirit of intimidation tries to hinder the advance of the kingdom of God. Moving from intimidation to boldness is necessary for releasing authority in intercession.
Chapter 5
A New Level of Faith
Hebrews proclaims that the world was prepared by the Word of God. As His representatives, we speak faith-filled words in intercession to create the visible will of the Lord on Earth. Faith releases a greater level of authority, which in turn puts a demand on the future for a better tomorrow.
Chapter 6
Individual Authority
As we allow Jesus (the Word) to live His life through us, we become the expression of Him in the earth. We, as living epistles, have the ability to slay the old Adamic nature and to live as an expression of the nature of Christ.
Chapter 7
Corporate Authority
God began His purposes with an individual man, but He consummates them with a corporate people. Exponential power is released through corporate unity.
Chapter 8
Territorial Authority
God promises that a strong, vibrant Church, operating in righteousness, has the ability through intercession to heal the land. As the Lord connects believers in a city or a region, exponential power is loosed to change the spiritual climate of the area.
Chapter 9
The Right Time and the Right Season
Times of waiting often precede times of release. These times of waiting are not to be wasted but, rather, are to be filled with purpose. Intercession has a now time to cause the will of God to be released. At the strategic time, I AM releases the future into the present situation.
Chapter 10
Decrees, Declarations and Proclamations
Words spoken in faith and boldness release things in the Father’s heart that are not yet seen. Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven”—faith-filled words, proclaiming God’s will and purposes.
Chapter 11
Angels
The Lord provides help for believers from powerful angelic beings. Angels do not do what we have been assigned to do; they are our assistants in warfare. Angels also provide protection for us as we engage the enemy.
Chapter 12
The Harvest
The purpose of authority in intercession is to cause God’s will to be done in the earth, which includes a mighty harvest of souls brought into salvation. The harvest of God is released through a powerful Church that brings transformation to cities and nations.
C HAPTER 1
H ELP ! I N EED M ORE P OWER IN M Y P RAYERS
The trip to Afghanistan had been planned for several months. I was traveling with a team of 20 medical specialists and we looked forward to going into the war-torn, poverty-stricken country to help alleviate some of the suffering. We also had a great expectation of bringing hope to the Afghans for a better tomorrow.
Afghanistan is a country in transition. Although the nation is no longer under the rule of the Taliban, it has not yet experienced all the changes necessary to make it whole. Poverty still abounds. Sickness and disease are everywhere. Buildings lie in ruin, and crime runs rampant.
How wonderful it was when we discovered a hotel available for us in Kabul! Due to the massive destruction from 25 years of war, we had anticipated the possibility of sleeping in a tent. A hotel— any hotel—would be better than that! We later laughed and told people we stayed in a five-star hotel; the only problem was that all the stars fell off.
At least we had running water and electricity—most of the time. However, we never knew when the power would go off. When the electricity was on, we could turn on fans to keep a small amount of air moving in the sweltering heat. We could use our hair dryers and turn on lights for reading or dressing. We truly counted our blessings because other parts of the city had been without electricity for many months.
I NCONSISTENT P OWER
I never was able to discover why the power in Afghanistan would be on for a while and then off for a period of time. If electricity was available, why didn’t we have access to it all of the time? What caused the inconsistency?
Often I have had the same questions about my prayer life. Sometimes, when I am praying, the power of God seems almost tangible. Later, the answers to those prayers manifest in the situations I addressed. Other times, it seems like the heavens are brass. I pray every way I know to pray, but nothing seems to happen. The necessary power to produce the necessary results does not seem to be present. Situations remain the same, even though change and transformation desperately need to occur.
On one particular Sunday morning the power of prayer was evident in our home church. My husband, Dale, had been experiencing an annoying heart skip for many years. At times this would not occur for months. At other times it would skip beats several times a day. On this occasion his heart had been skipping beats throughout the day for a number of weeks. Dale was standing next to Chuck Pierce at our church
