A survey by Home Depot found that 73 percent of women would like to learn more about tackling home improvements. But who has the brains, brawn, and beauty to really understand a woman's perspective and give her the confidence to conquer what had traditionally been men's territory? Norma Vally.
Norma Vally is a rare combination: construction worker, former model, television and radio host. As the host of Discovery Home's show Toolbelt Diva, Norma showed women how to throw out the Honey Do lists and "Honey, do it yourself." She's beautiful, sassy, confident, and competent, and with a radio show, a line of tools, a website, and her top-rated TV show she is a franchise dedicated to educating women on home repair, maintenance, and improvement. The Norma Vally book series is as sassy as Norma, packed with real-world tips showing women how to take charge of their homes.
This beautiful, four-color, fully illustrated series provides a basic overview of big-picture renovation. In Norma Vally's Bathroom Fix-Ups, Norma guides the reader through determining not only how to do the work, but how to determine what is right for her: Does she like bright overhead light or soft indirect lighting? Does she live in her bathroom -- and thus need as many homey amenities as possible?
Then Norma provides an overview of the jobs best left to professionals and those the reader can master with Norma's guidance: adding a vanity, installing a sink, building in recessed lighting, changing the toilet. Tasks are broken down into three levels of difficulty and cover sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, walls, and flooring.
The book will provide confidence to the most nervous renovator, showing readers that Honey-Do lists can truly become a thing of the past.

In dedication to my loving and inimitable Aunt Rose-Marie. Tender but tough, sweet and sour, extremely wise, unwittingly eccentric, ever giving, ever caring, ever funny, always there for me in more ways than I can count- everyone s favorite aunt -my deepest thanks for your constant love and support. I know you like things short and sweet, so I ll stop with the nya-nya, nya-nya, nya-nya. You re the best. You re a star. I love you.
acknowledgments
Writing these books reminds me of the proverb It takes a village to raise a child. I ve often referred to these books as my babies, and raising them certainly would not have been possible without the help of so many wonderful people. To the exceptional staff of Wiley Publishing, especially Cindy Kitchel, Pam Mourozis, and Donna Wright, and to Jason Marcuson and Jim Lightle at its onset-sincere thanks for your efforts and vision in creating this series. To my literary agent, Maura Teitelbaum, thank you for your continued support. For all of the technical assistance, tremendous thanks to Dave The Heart Carpenter, Bill Stemmie Harper (Big Daddy s Plumbing Repair Parts), Joe Barry (Ray Barry Sons), Alfredo Anelli, and especially my cousin Sal Pino. Much thanks to Le Gourmet Kitchen-Bruce Colluci, Jonathan Salmon, and Jamie Gaudio (Silly Girl).
Huge appreciation to my beautiful family, especially Mama Grace, Brother Berto and Janne, Aunt Rose-Marie, and The Medinas. To all of my incredible friends, especially Lucia, Phyllis, Maria, Jordan, Aldo, JD, Barbara, and The Neils-thank you for putting up with my whining! Special thanks to Rick Medina for this series inception and unceasing work and belief in me and our vision. Additional thanks to Eric McCullough, Michael Rhodes (The Home Depot), Ben Kunkel (Porter Paints), Cory Mennell (The Tile Shop), Eric Town (Fernco), Todd Kuhnert (Moen), Mitch Zoch (Eljer), Brasscraft, Neoperl, and especially the team at Ryobi.

a note from Norma
Paris, circa 1989, I m on stage singing with a rock and roll band in the hottest night club at the time, Les Bain Douches, when Prince, that s right Prince, comes out on stage to do a song with the band. I nearly dropped dead.
How I got from that stage to swinging a hammer, TV shows, and books on home improvement? I have no idea . . . it would probably take years on a therapist s couch and a whole other book series to explain that one.
Here s what I do know, feeling helpless is never fun, especially in your own home. Something as simple as not knowing what to do as you watch your toilet bowl overflow onto the floor can be traumatizing. Without the know-how, means, or even opportunity of finding a qualified and trustworthy professional to manage a project will leave you feeling frustrated, exhausted . . . helpless.
When I started working construction in Brooklyn with my cousin Sal umpteen years ago, every job I walked in on, the initial reaction was always the same-they d mumble behind my back, What s she doing here? They never thought I was a worker. Is that his girlfriend? Is she here to take a coffee order? She must be the designer. When I d start hauling in sheetrock, strapping on a toolbelt, and getting to work heads turned, eyebrows raised, and the questions shifted to, How did you learn how to do all this stuff? My stock response, Well it ain t brain surgery!
