Chapter 1 - Minecraft generated structures
The entire world of Minecraft consists entirely of three dimensional blocks. These blocks can be of any material such as wood, dirt, cobblestone, and so on. The world is made up of structures than can be a terrain feature, surface layers, generated buildings, or player made buildings. These structures also make the virtual world more interesting.
To give the game a little bit of environmental realism, the game world is predefined by regions called biomes. There are 61 biomes in the world of Minecraft, and are randomly generated. Biome types such as Jungle biomes, Swamp biomes, Desert Biomes, Planes biomes, etc. dictates which structures or resources will be generated in a specific region in the world.
In the virtual game world, there will be randomly generated game structures to give players something to explore. Generated structures may not be as exciting as player made structures, but they are quite interesting.
1. Desert Wells These well like structures are available in the Desert biome. Desert wells have a low chance to be generated in a desert region (1/1000), so they are quite rare. Desert Wells are the only natural source of water in the desert biome since lakes cannot be generated there.
2. Huge Mushrooms These unusually large structures can be found in two specific biomes; Mushroom Island and Roofed Forest. They are made up of mushroom stalks with brown or red colored blocks on top to make the mushroom s cap. These mushrooms can be grown outside of Mushroom Islands by using bone meal to fertilize red or brown mushroom.
3. Desert temples The desert temples were also referred to as pyramids. These buildings are generated in the Desert biome, and are made up of sandstone and wool. There is a hidden chamber beneath the temple that is accessible by destroying a block of blue wool at the center of the structure. Players can find valuable items in this hidden chamber.
4. Jungle temples As the name suggests, the Jungle temples can be found in the Jungle biome. The entire structure consists of cobblestones and mossy cobblestones. The Jungle temple has three levels. The jungle temple also features a mini game that lets the player solve a puzzle which if solved, the player will be awarded a chest usually containing diamonds and emeralds.
5. Witch s Huts These structures are made up of spruce wood planks and oak wood blocks. They can be found in the Swamp and Plains biomes. Witches also spawn inside of them, so be careful when approaching one.
6. Dungeons These small structures are often found underground in any biome. Dungeon walls consist of cobblestones and mossy cobblestones. Monsters also spawn from the inside of dungeons so be careful when exploring one (Zombies, Skeletons, and Spiders). Placing a torch on the monster spawner (which is usually at the center of the dungeon) will prevent monsters from spawning. Most of the time, dungeons contain chests that will reward the player with valuable loot.
7. Strongholds These structures consist of several smaller rooms like libraries, dungeons, and so on. They can be found on any biome, but only 3 will spawn in each world; making them quite rare. The entire structure is made up of stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, cracked stone bricks, doors, iron bars, monster eggs, and stone slabs. Various chests can be found throughout the stronghold, containing loot like apples, bread, books, compasses, iron tools, iron armor, Redstone, and Eye of Ender. Throwing an Eye of Ender in the air will point the direction to an End Portal, which can be found in a stronghold.
8. Abandoned Mine Shafts These underground structures can be found in any biome. It consists of an interconnected mining tunnels that is constructed with wood su
