ﻢﻴﺣﺮﻟا ﻦﻤﺣﺮﻟا ﷲ ﻢﺴﺑ PREFACE  Islam is probably the religion most ignored or misunderstood by people in different parts of the world. One of the reasons may be the inactivity of Muslims with regard to introducing Islam to other non-Muslim nations. Another reason is perhaps the psychological barrier between the West and the Muslim world created by a series of wars between the two sides. A third reason may be the intentional attempts of some anti-Islam thinkers and clergy to distort Islam or to prevent the Westerners from knowing the truth about Islam.  However, the truth remains that Islamwasand is andwill be. Islam is now the religion of 1.5 billion humans, and it gains new followers every day, not only through the natural increase of the inhabitants of this world, but also through the increasing numbers of new embracers.  The starting point here is to know Islam. Without this knowledge, an individual’s attitude is often prejudiced, pre-determined, and stereotyped. For a person to be objective, he must base his attitude on adequate knowledge.

The cornerstones of Islam are five: (1) witnessing that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, (2) prayer, (3) fasting Ramadan, (4) charity,i.e.,zakat ,and(5) pilgrimage by the able. Concerning faith, a Muslim must believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and predestination. For details on these topics, the reader is referred to the author’s book the Light of Islam and other books mentioned at the end of this book.  This book is an attempt to illustrate how Islam leads to happiness: how Islam builds honesty and morality, how Islam satisfies man’s need for security, how Islam makes life purposeful, how Islam leads to mental peace, how Islam establishes human equality and sociability, and how Islam protects the family and the individual.  I hope that this book will be useful in throwing enough light on the function of Islam as a perfect and comprehensive code of human life.  The Author  Muhammad Ali Alkhuli
