The Amazon îs goîng up în smoke
While manyconcrete junglesare embracing “green” initiatives, in rural areas, forests are not faring quite so well. For months, all eyes have been on the Amazon. Images of the planet's greatest rainforest engulfed in flames are shock-ing and extremely worrying. Indeed, it is one of nature's treasures: its trees play a vital role in our ecosystem, absorbing carbon monoxide and let-ting out the clean, breathable air the entire planet needs to survive. From toxic politics to toxic trees, we head to the Amazon and to Ireland to look at these crucial issues.
You will also discover how a whole generation of telephone-addicted high-schoolers are being weaned off their screens during class hours. On another type of bench, Parliamentarians the world over are seeing their crumbling buildings undergo extensive top-to-toe makeovers, but will these changes affect the balance of power? In the tech world, US and Chinese engineers are having to decide whether they can reconcile the pursuit of innovation with their ideological beliefs. In the culture section, we look at a couple of Ireland's finest exports: as Peaky Blinders returns for a new season, we see how far actor Cillian Murphy has come, and why Sally Rooney is being lauded as the great millennial author.
