Developments for turnover and employment indices for services during the last quarter of 2004 z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z Turnover of the EU-25's services sector grew at a rapid pace between the final quarters of 2003 and 2004. Nowhere was this more apparent than for supporting transport activities, where the gross index increased by 10.3 %. Other activities that reported high growth rates over the same period included land transport (6.9 %), motor trades (6.7 %) and water transport (6.3 %), while air transport was the only activity to record a drop in sales. As regards the euro-zone, subject to data availability, all of the latest growth rates for turnover were positive, the highest being 6.8 % for motor trades.
Employment also generally increased across service activities in both the EU-25 and the euro-zone, with slightly higher growth rates often being recorded for the euro-zone. Between the final quarters of 2003 and 2004 the fastest expansion was reported for other business activities (3.5 % growth for the EU-25 and 3.8 % for the euro-zone). Three of the ten activities for which data are presented recorded contractions in their respective employment levels, the largest being for water transport activities (-5.3 % in the EU-25 and -8.6 % in the euro-zone).
