DicOOo Tutorial
W
hat is DicOOo ?
Dicoo is a software assistant that allows easy
installation of dictionaries (spellchecker,
hyphenation checker and thesaurus) for users.
This software uses a macro written in ooBasic and
connects to the web server and provides a list of all available dictionnaires.
This product is created by Laurent Godard, an independant consultant (consulting
and development) on OpenOffice.
H
ow does DicOOo work?
The macro firsts asks you a number of questions and then connects to an
OpenOffice.org web server and then displays the available list of dictionairies
(spellcheck, hyphenation and thesaurus). Once you have selected your language,
DicOOo downloads and installs them. You may, if necessary, be required to configure
the linguistic parameters.
M
ain Features
MultiOS: Available for Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris
Multirelease: compatible with all releases of Oo
Multilingual: the GUI language can be changed. The first release is available in10
languages
Several installation modes: choice between root installation (dictionnairies can be
used by all users) or a mono-user installation
Auto-update: Every time it is used, DicOOo checks the avalability of a new release
and allows the user to install it
Manage off-line installation using Installer packs. These packs are avalaible on the
project web server
Lingucomponent

U
sing DicOOo
First, you must download DicOOo and then open Dicooo.sxw and accept the use of
the macro. This page is displayed :
By selecting one of the languages, the page of the correct language is displayed as a
webpage in HTML. In the image below, it is obviously in English (parlez-vous
français ?)
The macro is now working correctly and the page displays the screenshot below.
From this window, this guide will explain the installation process step-by-step:
S
tep-by-step Installation
1) Selecting the update mode
You have 4 choices:
I am connected to Internet, I download directly and:
I want to install the dictionairies just for me.
I am root user and I want to install the dictionaries for all users.
I am not connected to Internet, I have downloaded the pack and:
I want to install it only for me.
I am a root user and I want to install it for all the users.
In the following exemple, I have acess to Internet and I am a root user. I want to
install all dictionaries for all users.
2) Selecting the main dictionary
You must select at least one dictionary, however you can select more if desired.
Here, we choose the English dictionary (English (United Kingdom)), as well for the
hyphenation dictionary, so the next step is ...
3) Selecting the hyphenation dictionary
Click “ Retrieve the list “.
Select the dictionary from the list.
Now, click “Next” to select the thesaurus.
4)Selecting the thesaurus
As with the other dictionaries, click " Retrieve the list ".
Select the dictionary from the list.
5) Final step
That's all! The macro will now begin the download and install the selected
dictionaries.
Installation is now complete. You can display the readme files of the dictionaries by
clicking "Read the informations files for each installed dictionary" (authors, licences,
installation information, etc...).
N
otes on building Off-Line Packs
This feature is especially dedicted to distribute dictionnaries with CD
An Off-Line Pack contains 3 text files and the concerned dictionaries zip files
These 3 text files describe what the off-line pack contains regarding each dictionary
type
spell.txt : Contained Spellchecker zip files. It meets the same structure of the
lingucomponent project file :
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/available.lst
hyph.txt : Contained Hyphenation zip files. It meets the same structure of the
lingucomponent project file :
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/hyphavail.lst
thes.txt : Contained Thesaurus zip files. It meets the same structure of the
lingucomponent project file :
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/thesavail.lst
Moreover, DicOOo code has been designed to limit the needed modification in the
code to let it start with the off-line mode selected by default.
Users who want to adapt it, have only to focus on two global constants in the
LangPack module :
StartOffLine = 0 '0/1 activate/deactivate off-line mode selected by default
NomPackLang="" ' Name of the off-line pack zip file. Relative URLs to dicOOo are
allowed
