  DEFINITION    Raw coffee mother tincture complies with the requirements of the general technique for the preparation of the mother tincture (seeHomeopathic Preparations (1038) French and Pharmacopoeia Supplement). The mother tincture is prepared with ethanol (65 per centV/V), using the dried, green seed ofCoffea arabicaL., ofCoffea canephoraPierre ex Fröehner and varieties of these species.   Content: minimum 0.06 per centm/mof caffeine (C 8 H 10 N 4 O 2 ;M r 194.2).     CHARACTERS    Appearance:brownish-yellow liquid.     IDENTIFICATION    Thin-layer chromatography (2.272.).   Test solution.Mother tincture.   Reference solution (a).Dissolve 10 mg ofcaffeine Rin 10 mL ofethanol(60 per centV/V)R.   Reference solution (b).Dissolve 50 mg oftheophylline Rin 10 mL of1 M sodium hydroxide.   Plate:TLC silica gel plate R.   Mobile phase:glacial acetic acid R, water R, butanol R0:01(4:01V/V/V).   Application: 20 µL as bands.   Development: over a path of 10 cm.
