PREFACE
My life’s journey began on a beautiful summer day in Derby, UK where I was birthed. You see, your date of birth is when you physically arrive in this earth space, but we birth every day when we peel down the human layers of who we are to discover/reveal our true spirit, our purpose.
I journeyed from Derby, UK with my parents to the largest city in Africa (Lagos), where the building blocks for all my life experiences started, and my path to understanding the world, its people, and ultimately myself, began.
I grew up in a close-knit family; however, the African adage that says it takes a village to raise a child became my experience. My mom has six brothers, and they were all part of my daily life.
As a child growing up in a traditional African home, I was shielded by my family; but I was able to experience life from the schools I attended, my uncle’s experiences, my community, and just by having a curious mind.
A part of the African culture that appeals to me is that of storytelling, sitting under the tree listening to some elders pass on wisdom. I remember my grandfather and grandmother passing down wisdom through parables when I was much younger, but I did not make much of it until later in life.
I journeyed on to college in the United States of America where I experienced adulthood.
What is Whispers from Within and why do I feel the need to share my life’s whispers with you? I want to share Whispers from Within to pass on what I have learned so far on my life’s journey; some of which I wish someone had shared with me at an earlier age.

KNOW THYSELF
(THE BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LIFE’S JOURNEY)
Knowing yourself is key to making better choices in life. Knowing yourself places you in a position of power because you know your worth. It also sets the stage for how you treat yourself and for how others will treat you. It shows others what you are willing and not willing to accept in life.
To know thyself, you must be willing to ask yourself life’s big questions and do the work to dig deep into your soul to answer them with 100 percent honesty:
• Who am I?
• Why was I born?
• What am I good at?
• What am I not good at?
• Do I love myself regardless of my flaws?
As a young girl in boarding school (Command Secondary School, Lagos), I discovered myself independently away from my family for the first time, and it was a challenging experience. As I discovered myself, I realized that I did not live my truth. I was part of the in-crowd because I did not want to appear weak, but that was not my truth; I did that to fit in.
I moved in groups to have a sense of social relevance. I conformed, and many times it was to the detriment of my soul’s truth.
Fast forward to today. What I considered weak in myself back in boarding school was just the empath in me. If I had taken time to ask myself “Who am I”, there would have been no need for me to seek social relevance. This was the beginning of knowing myself and having the courage to accept the ultimate truth of “Who am I”.
SQUARE PEGS, WRONG HOLE
An individual who knows themselves cannot be pulled into a crowd that is not in alignment with their own soul.
They know better than to want to “fit in” and try to be what society thinks is normal.
Just like a puzzle, your piece will never fit into someone else’s place. This will render the whole puzzle unfinished and missing the necessary pieces to be beautiful. What is a puzzle if it’s useless?
It is okay to be you.
To be unapologetically you!
WITHOUT BOUND
What do you want more than anything else in life?
Where do you see yourself in five or even ten years down the line?
When you close your eyes, where do you envision your happy place?
Memorize these things.
Want them as badly as you would want to breathe.
Write them down.
