There is an element of tenseness carries throughout the story. It is a well-written and enjoyable character study.

I like Max Brands stories over most other Western writers because he sidesteps page after page of monotonous action and substitutes the inner thoughts and emotions of his characters. As we get to know them we start to worry over their fate. If that is the kind of story you like, then, you are in luck here.
