Description

Many of us strive for healing and release in our lives. We want to be more fulfilled and at peace. We want to rise up above struggles and pain and become a better person! Get an insight into how this may be possible, in this Christian fiction novel from Karlene Stewart called You Can Rise Up. In this fictional autobiography, learn how a young, beautiful, strong-willed girl named Carla Henderson falls to the guiles and charm of a misguided young man. While Carla is clearly tricked by her seducer, the author conveys how Carla's reckless behavior and disregard for authority is what steers her into the hands of her villain and along a self-destructive path. As we read how Carla's life unfolds, get insight into the dramatic benefits of doing what is right and turning to God as a source of guidance. This book is built around two very clear concepts: choose the safer, more righteous path in life; and Release your negative past and find peace again. As we journey through Carla Henderson's life, we also see ways in which we can improve our own life, starting with self-analysis and being honest with ourselves about what works well and what areas need to change. This book also highlights the importance of forgiving yourself, releasing the past and seeking guidance through a higher power. If you or someone you know have been through many bad circumstances, low after low, and you wonder how can anyone come back from all that, read You Can Rise Up and learn how it is possible to start the process of healing and start life afresh. Forgive yourself and overcome past pains.

About the Book
You Can Rise Up takes readers through the journey of the life of a girl named Carla Henderson. Carla’s life is one of pain, aggression and tragedy. Much of the ill fate that she experiences is due to the villain in the story, who is five years her senior, and who uses his guise of charm and charisma to woo her, then sets out to destroy her to achieve his own agenda. Carla’s own disobedience and disregard for authority helps to steer her into the hands of this villain and along the wrong path. Carla’s life is juxtaposed alongside the life of her childhood friend Aisha, whose life turned out in a way that is contrary to that of Carla’s. Aisha is the model daughter, the perfect student and lives a very settled life - getting married early and starting a career as a teacher. It is only after the murder of her father and her own near-death experience that Carla comes to the realisation that she needs to rise up out of her dark life and be a better person.

Preface
We often hear that people have two sides to them a good side and a bad side. Depending on how extreme the differences are, some people get labeled as having split personalities. This notion inspired me to write this book. I thought of two girls I know who have interesting personalities. Their lives and lifestyles seem to fit with the concept of split personalities. One is a girl who loves to party. She has lots of friends, loves alcoholic drinks, is rude to her parents, and swears a lot; yet this same person is career-oriented and involved in extracurricular activities such as debating, karate, dancing, swimming, and Future Leaders. She has design skills and speaks eloquently. This one person embraces two very different types of character traits. Her personality would have been less interesting, in my view, had she been someone who drank, cursed, was rude to her parents, loved to party, but was not focused on career goals and didn’t make time to be involved in constructive activities. Or, on the positive side, she might have been someone who participated in debate and Future Leaders’ competitions and was career-oriented but additionally was polite and obedient to her parents and a homebody who spent time at home reading. This would be less interesting to me than someone embodying aspects of these two versions of personality traits.
The second girl seemed not to necessarily embody two different personality traits, but rather she seemed to move from one end of the spectrum to the other. She was expelled from several high schools due to bad behavior. She was rude to her parents and disobedient. She got pregnant and had a child as a teenager. Rumors circulated about her being promiscuous. Her dad was shot and killed right by his gate, and it was suspected that the assailants were really out to get her. The incident begs the question, what was she so heavily involved in that would result in a murder? This same girl went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree. Her particular personality made me think, Wow, what a dramatic transformation . Who would have expected someone who kept getting kicked out of high school, was rumored promiscuous, and had a child as a teenager to turn around and pursue higher education? In fact, not only did she pursue higher education, but she did so internationally. She went overseas and did her master’s there.
These two girls with these very interesting personalities gave me the idea to create a story in which two personalities were combined into one character, highlighting how people can transform into very different people from who they were originally perceived to be.
During the writing process, I started to consider that this was my second book that centered on the life of a female, so I pondered the idea of writing a book about a man. Then it got me thinking that instead of waiting until I wrote a third book to make it about a man, I could have a man be one of the main characters in this particular book. I wanted him to have this kind of personality with two sides, so I made him into a character who was manipulative. A manipulator will tend to exhibit contrary personality traits because, in order to achieve his agenda, he has to pretend; he has to display an attitude that will be appealing to the person or group he is setting out to manipulate.
I created a story tying together these interesting types of personalities, where the female main character moves from one end of the spectrum to the next, and the male main character displays a double personality of both charm and exploitation. The main male character, while having a significant role, is secondary to that of the main female character, who is the real focus of the story. It is her transformation that is examined under the theme You Can Rise Up .
Acknowledgments
I wish to acknowledge Donald Hugh Roberts for constantly asking, "When are you going to finish writing your next book?" This motivated me to stop procrastinating and get it done.
I also wish to thank Stacey Ebanks for providing me with the character sketch of the male villain in the story. This helped me overcome my writer’s block.
T oday I stand by this grave with a heavy heart. As I hold back these tears, the pain in my stomach doesn’t compare to the ache in my heart. I wish I had listened all those years ago, but I didn’t. Now I look down at the coffin where my father lies, wishing I could turn back time.
