Key Selling Points
These Broken Roads starts with a dating app scam which is a hot topic. For example, due to the popularity of dating apps, the documentary Tinder Swindler in which a con man scammed multiple women he met on Tinder out of their money, hit the Top 10 on Netflix in 92 countries in February 2022. People proclaimed it addictive.
The reader is rooting for Hayes from the beginning. A Jamaican immigrant, she came to New York City when she was 14, and fought her way out of two bad marriages and dire circumstances, raising her child as a single mom and rising up the corporate ladder to become a true American success story. Then she met her scammer.
In this telling of a scam however, Donna Marie Hayes doesn’t stay in the victim role, she learns her lessons, and then she fights back, eventually vindicating herself. She sets herself on a new path, leaving behind the broken roads and choices of her past.
Hayes now helps other women with victimization, mindset, and empowerment through her Distinguished Coaching organization.
Donna Marie Hayes is a New York City resident and a performer both on stage and in film. A SAG-AFTRA member, Hayes has appeared on Dr. Oz Show (Defy Your Age), Orange Is The New Black (Netflix), Black Girls Rock (BET), Celebrity Ghost Stories (Biography Channel) as well as in several other New York City Off-Broadway and TV productions.
The author has starred in five one-woman cabaret shows in New York City. Her latest shares the title and themes of the book These Broken Roads and will play for one night as a launch event on October 6 at the Cutting Room in New York City.
“These Broken Roads is Hayes’ Cinderella story beginning in the Jamaican countryside and ending in an Uptown Penthouse. It is a journey from betrayal to self-discovery. It is a coming of age that is at once human and hopeful. Hayes’ life, though complicated by duplicity is consistently buoyed by a strength and competence that is in moments, breathtaking. Pick up this book. You will not be able to put it down.” —Joselin Linder, author of The Family Gene, HarperCollins
