THE LORD’S PRAYER
Dedication
This book’s basis is the exclusively Christian gift of forgiveness, ours solely through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who paid the ultimate price for mankind’s salvation. Consequently, it is chiefly dedicated to God who never forsakes or stops trying to reach us and, thereafter, faithfully offered to all those who read it, in prayerful petition that it is a blessing unto you.
This book is also dedicated to that major offender in my life that caused the need for this work. While never wanting such an offense to happen, I am no longer gripped by its destructive effects or by the forceful need to wish it gone. The struggle to prevail has brought miraculous growth and a stillness I once thought unattainable. The breach is repaired; it is well with my soul.
Acknowledgements
“Honor thy father and mother.” For all you have given and still give, for all you have taught and still teach, for every worthy example and unselfish act on my behalf…
To my husband, who sincerely strives to understand my creative streaks and patiently recommits to faithfully see them through with me…
You have my eternal love, admiration and gratitude
To our cherished friends, Scott and Lisa, for their shining, yet humble model of a God-centered life…for Scott’s chaplain heart and mind in reviewing and making suggestions to this work…
To all the loyal companions who have supported my journey…
Thank you seems like such a small thing to say
Introduction
Intended as a workbook, this writing is hopefully crafted in an easy to grasp fashion that welcomes and attracts reader participation. Reflection areas and journal space are provided so you may create a learning record of your journey, to be kept private or share as you see fit.
The text is purposefully simplified and limited to bare necessities that would guide without directing your progression or determining your outcome. As such, it might ultimately be merely a launching pad. I encourage you to augment with qualified and carefully screened Christian and secular resources as may be appropriate.
A Bible verse telling what Jehovah requires of us is captured below, along with a link address for finding a short and easy to understand Bible.Org study on the issue of forgiveness. A few Christian-focused books that I’ve enjoyed for their uncommonly interesting perspective, style and excellence in covering issues related to leaving bitterness behind are also listed here. Two internet searches are suggested as well. Keep in mind, Christian literature is normally written with the directive to forgive described in traditional fashion. I found it invaluable to alter this edict to one of recovering and maintaining a merciful heart.
Recommended Discovery Learning:
• Micah 6:8
“He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

• The Prodigal God
“Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith” - Timothy Keller
• The Search For Significance
“We can build our self-worth on our ability to please others, or on the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ” - Robert S. McGee
• THE PEACE MAKER Revised and Updated
“A biblical guide to resolving personal conflict” - Ken Sande
• Browse the internet for material based on the searches: “the three wills of God” and “mercy versus grace.”
All scripture quotes are taken from the World English Bible because it uses more modern English than the American Standard Version (ASV) of the Holy Bible it is updated from. The ASV was first published in 1901 and has earned an exceptionally solid reputation for being Biblically honest.
Author’s Foreword
“Forgive and forget, let it go, you have to move on.” When mired in bitterness, have you not been dismayed to find no one offering something more than stale, dismissive reprimands? Having been severely wronged and mightily bruised, I know all too well how deep suffering can run; how despite openly sharing our misery, we can remain gruffly and wholly captured by the predominant skepticism that there is no council wise enough to shepherd us on those final steps to freedom.
