Sample Book Insights:
#1 The underlying principle of this book is that it’s possible to move toward balance, prosperity, happiness, and basic sanity in our lives as human beings. The core of the operating system that will get us there is recognizing how our minds work and how the world works.
#2 We all have a vision for our life. It may be modest, like just getting by and having a little comfort, but it could expand to include becoming a great artist, musician, architect, meditation teacher, parent, benefactor, or healer.
#3 When we explore the making-a-buck part of our lives, the notion of joining heaven and earth can be a very useful construct and an extremely practical approach. As we descend from our lofty view of Mount Fuji, our vast sense of possibilities and opportunities, let's see if we can apply this notion of heaven and earth to our own livelihood and career.
#4 What skills do you need to create the career you’re visualizing. Do you live in the right place to do the job you really want. Write down any other considerations.

#1

The underlying principle of this book is that it’s possible to move toward balance, prosperity, happiness, and basic sanity in our lives as human beings. The core of the operating system that will get us there is recognizing how our minds work and how the world works.

#2

We all have a vision for our life. It may be modest, like just getting by and having a little comfort, but it could expand to include becoming a great artist, musician, architect, meditation teacher, parent, benefactor, or healer.

#3

When we explore the making-a-buck part of our lives, the notion of joining heaven and earth can be a very useful construct and an extremely practical approach. As we descend from our lofty view of Mount Fuji, our vast sense of possibilities and opportunities, let's see if we can apply this notion of heaven and earth to our own livelihood and career.

#4

What skills do you need to create the career you’re visualizing. Do you live in the right place to do the job you really want. Write down any other considerations.

#5

When we are working one-on-one with individual students, we focus on developing a regular meditation practice. This is a great way to cultivate a grounded and clear state of mind. When combined with ethics, mindfulness meditation makes for a great foundation for leading a life worth living.

#6

Mindfulness is a modern practice that has been popularized by the media. It has been plucked from the much more expansive body of Buddhist teachings and put into heavy rotation as support for regular folks like us to develop focus, balance, and peace of mind.

#7

Mindfulness is the key to settling our mind. We simply bring our attention back to our breathing over and over again, which allows us to stabilize our mind. It also allows us to see that there is space between and around our thoughts, and that they are not as substantial and solid as we make them out to be.

#8

You can train your mind to develop clarity, focus, and stability by simply taking a good upright posture, placing your attention on your breath going in and out of your body, and bringing your attention back to your breath when you notice you’ve wandered.

#9

The first step in changing our habits is to create a clear intention to do so. Otherwise, the force and inertia of our habitual mind will reassert itself over and over again. It’s like dieting: without a genuine intention to lose weight, we’ll simply make superficial efforts and succeed for a while.

#10

You can identify three deeply ingrained habits that you can recognize as redundant, counterproductive obstacles to your personal growth and evolution. Then, identify the narrative that accompanies the experience of those patterns.

#11

There are two types of laziness: lethargy, or a feeling of heaviness, and obsessive activity, or being too busy to leave any room for clear thought. We must overcome our laziness to make a fresh start and develop clarity and intention.
