LONDON, July 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/
-The price of a wedding can cause tempers to rise and bank balances to fall dramatically
as a couple struggle to raise enough cash for their dream wedding.
One bride to be was so desperate for her special day to be perfect thats he stole
[*]£200,000 from her employer to pay for her wedding in January 2011. Guests at Mrs
Lane's wedding enjoyed a magician, free bar and fireworks but the day was funded by
Pure Audio Visual, the company she worked for.
The part-time accounts assistant began stealing money in 2008, one year after meeting
her husband. At first she took small amounts, but these gradually increased as she made
improvements to her home and planned her wedding.
Mrs Lane admitted to ten counts of fraud and was sentenced to twenty months in prison.
This story shows the lengths people will go to in order to have their dream wedding. The
average cost of a wedding in the UK is almost £20,000 and many couples are
borrowing money or saving up for several years for their perfect ceremony.
Although it may be difficult to believe, there are ways to havea beautiful wedding without
breaking the bank.
Small, intimate ceremonies are much cheaper and the couple can actually spend time
with each of their loved ones, instead of rushing around trying to speak to 200 guests
amid dinners, speeches, cake cutting and vows.
If you're a bride, ordering your wedding dress online could save you money as you could
find a last season designer frock, or get one second-hand. It's also worth looking in
vintage or charity shops for a dress you can have altered and redesigned as this can also
be cheaper.
As a last resort, ask close friends and family if they'll contribute towards your
wedding instead of buying you a gift. Many mothers of the bride buy their daughter's
wedding dress and the grooms parents often pay for the honeymoon. There's no shame in
this and your guests will feel more involved in the wedding
preparation.
