OncemoreIfeelconstrainedtospeakinvindicationofthe
SabbathoftheLordourGod.Ihavebeenprivilegedtoreadabout
allthearticleswhichhaveappearedintheB

forandagainsttheSeventh-daySabbath,foraboutfourmonths
past;andoccasionallyathrustandachallengefromtheAdvent
Harbinger,declaringthatthelawofGodwasabolishedmore
thaneighteenhundredyearsago,andthatwehavesincethat
timebeenundergrace.ThemostthatIhavefearedinthis
controversywas,thatitwouldnotbecontinuedlongenoughto
bringoutthewholetruth,totheutterconfusionanddismayof
theseprofessedSecondAdventSabbathbreakers.Onetraitin
theircharactersisnowprettyclearlydeveloped,thatisthey
areSabbathhaters!ThelawofGodisnicknamedbythem,the
JewishRitual,theJewishSabbath,theSabbathoftheold
Jews,&c.&c.,thusvirtuallyshowinguptheircharactersin
theseperiloustimes,accordingtoPaul,ascovenantbreakers,
boasters,proud,blasphemers,denyingtherighteouslawofGod,
andyetprofessingtobelievethewholewordofGod.AsJannes
andJambreswithstoodMosessodosomeoftheseleadingmen
resistthetruth.Awonderfulandhorriblethingiscommitted
intheland,theprophetsprophecyfalselyandthepriestsbear
rulebytheirmeans,andmypeoplelovetohaveitso;andwhat
willyedointheendthereof?AnswerThesoulthatsinneth,
itshalldie.Ithinkitisbecomingveryevidentthattheyare
fulfillingRev.xii:17,andxvi:13,firstclause.Noneothersso
likelytodeceiveasthese,becauseoftheirpositioninthenear
comingoftheSaviour.Itamountstoalmostanimpossibilityto

their
definitionofthe
LawandCommandments

willtellyouthattheoldandnewtestamentsaretheWordand

CommandmentsofGod.Asecondwilltellyouthatthenew
testamentcontainsallthecommandmentsandteachingsthatare
nowrequiredofus.Iwasinformedofacompanyofprofessed
adventbelievers,notthirtymilesfromthis,havingbecomeso
alarmedortenacious,thattheywouldnotcarrytheoldtestament
withthemtomeetingonthefirstday.Therewasnothingin
it,however,thattheyfearedbutthecommandmenttokeepthe
Seventh-daySabbath.Athirdclasswilltellyouthatbaptism,
theLord'sSupper,washingoneanother'sfeet,holygreeting,and
allthecommandswhicharegiven,arecommandments.Joseph
Marsh,editoroftheAdventHarbinger,sayswearenotunderthe
law(ofMoses)butunderthelawofgrace,thenewtestament.
NowtheApostleJameshasgivenusatestwhichwillutterly
confoundallsuchunscripturalarguments,viz.:Whosoever
shallkeepthewholelawbutshallfailwithrespecttooneprecept
hathbeenguiltyofall.[

right?Youanswer,James,theinspiredone.Well,doeshe
justifyeitheroftheotherfour?Youanswerno,forhehas
directedustothetablesofstone,thetencommandmentsinthe
law,recordedinExodusxx:1-17.Thisisthetruesource.Isit
doubted?ThenhereisthetestimonyofJesusinMatt.v:17-19.
Nowreadthe21stand27thversestheverysameonesJames
hasquoted.Seealsothe33dverse,thethirdprecept.There
areseveralothersifrequired,butsurelythesetwoareclear.
Certainlynoonewilldoubtfromtheabovetestimonybutwhat
thetencommandmentsinthedecalogueareallandtheonlyones
thatmanisrequiredtokeep,withtheexceptionofthenewone
inJohnxiii:34,givenforthechurchofChrist.ButJ.Marsh
says,itisclearthatallthetencommandmentsinthedecalogue
wereabolishedatthecrucifixionofChrist.Sosayseveryone

thattakesthisstand,andtheyquoteforproof2dCol.14-17.
ButithappensveryunfortunatelyforthemallthatJamessaw
hismastercrucifiedandhistestimonyisdatedA.D.60,about
twenty-nineyearsbeyondtheirpointoftime,andshowsusthat
thecommandmentswereasmuchenforcedthenandeverwould
be,astheywerewhenhismasterwascrucifiedtwenty-nineyears
before.NowIsaythatthistestimonypointedlyandpositively
condemnsthemandwillcondemnthematthejudgment.For
proofofthisIappealtotheteachingsofourLordJesusChrist,
whatwemustdotobesaved,
