To be sure you have an up to datefirst edition [xxxxx10x.xxx] please check file sizesin the first week of the next month. Since our ftpprogram has a bug in it that scrambles the date[tried to fix and failed] a look at the file size willhave to do, but we will try to see a new copy has atleast one byte more or less.Information about Project Gutenberg (one page)We produce about two million dollars for each hour
we work. The fifty hours is one conservativeestimate for how long it we take to get any etextselected, entered, proofread, edited, copyrightsearched and analyzed, the copyright letterswritten, etc. This projected audience is onehundred million readers. If our value per text isnominally estimated at one dollar then we produce$4 million dollars per hour this year as we releasesome eight text files per month: thus upping ourproductivity from $2 million. The Goal of Project Gutenberg is to Give AwayOne Trillion Etext Files by the December 31, 2001.[10,000 x 100,000,000=Trillion] This is tenthousand titles each to one hundred millionreaders, which is 10% of the expected number ofcomputer users by the end of the year 2001.We need your donations more than ever! All donations should be made to "ProjectGutenberg/IBC", and are tax deductible to theextent allowable by law ("IBC" is Illinois BenedictineCollege). From her tallprecipice and terraced gardens she looks far andwide on the sea and broad champaigns. To theeast you may catch at sunset the spark of the Maylighthouse, where the Firth expands into theGerman Ocean; and away to the west, over all thecarse of Stirling, you can see the first snows uponBen Ledi. But Edinburgh pays cruelly for her high seat in oneof the vilest climates under heaven. She is liable tobe beaten upon by all the winds that blow, to bedrenched with rain, to be buried in cold sea fogsout of the east, and powdered with the snow as itcomes flying southward from the Highland hills. The weather is raw and boisterous in winter, shiftyand ungenial in summer, and a downrightmeteorological purgatory in the spring. The delicatedie early, and I, as a survivor, among bleak windsand plumping rain, have been sometimes temptedto envy them their fate. For all who love shelterand the blessings of the sun, who hate darkweather and perpetual tilting against squalls, therecould scarcely be found a more unhomely andharassing place of residence. Many such aspireangrily after that Somewhere-else of theimagination, where all troubles are supposed toend.
