Description

The Knights of Emerald: This epic tale takes place in a forgotten world in a time of great unrest as Amecareth, the Dark Lord of the Insect People, attempts to take over the known universe. It is the story of Kira, the purple child, born of the rape of Queen Fan of Shola by the despicable Emperor, who will ultimately bring about his downfall, and of the brave Knights of Emerald entrusted with her safety.
Book 7 of the saga The Knights of Emerald, The Abduction: A tragic loss triggers a series of unexpected events at the Castle of Emerald.
Wellan inherits a curious jewel endowed with a fascinating magical power. But, at the same time, he discovers that the renegade Onyx has once again taken command of another human body. Will Wellan have to face him again?
The eldest of his brothers-in-arms are provided with magical wrist bands. Wellan also puts each of them in charge a group of younger Knights and sends them to patrol the coast. A wise decision since Asbeth is about to strike once again …
Despite all the efforts expended by the Knights and Kira's extraordinary powers, the insect-soldiers manage to abduct a human warrior with a view to use him to destroy all the inhabitants of Enkidiev. Wellan has no intention of letting the Emperor create such a terrible weapon. Together with a new ally, he devises the most perilous rescue mission ever undertaken by the Knights of Emerald … will it succeed?

T HE P REDATOR

T he Kingdom of Beryl was located in the mountains in the southern part of Enkidiev. Forests were scarce and sparse. That’s why the houses were built of stone. The Berylians never cut down trees, and whatever wood they needed to make furniture or heat their houses was brought in from the Kingdom of Turquoise.
Mori, the wizard, had decided that the safest place to store his manuscripts and potions was in a cave he had dug at the summit of the highest peak in the range. There were no guards posted at the cave mouth because the old man had no enemies.
The narrow entranceway had been carved out of the rock with a miner’s pick and opened onto a cave that would have been spacious if it hadn’t been so cluttered with a large number of granite shelves. They were chock-full of books of magic, parchment rolls, small colored bottles, crucibles, bits of shiny rock and other objects that were hard to identify. In the middle there stood a solid oak table whose surface had been eaten away time and time again by various potions that had spilled and left their marks. Mori had reached the venerable age of two hundred and five and his hands weren’t as steady as they used to be.
In the past there had been a large number of wizards who had served as advisors to the kings and queens of Enkidiev, but most of them had died without having been able to find apprentices to carry on their important work. In fact, there were now only two left on the continent. As he wrote down his latest observations in an enormous book that lay open in front of him, Mori thought about his colleague Elund. Elund was lucky. He had the opportunity of handing down his knowledge to Hawke. Elund wrote Mori often and in his letters he never tired of telling him how talented the young Elf was. “ Who would ever have believed that one day the Elves would agree to let one of their children study under a human, ” mumbled Mori as he dipped his quill in the inkwell.
One had to have very great talents and very specific aptitudes to become a wizard. The fact that all of the Knights that Emerald I had handpicked were powerful wizards was beyond belief.
With age, the old man had gotten into the habit of talking to himself. “ It’s just too bad that they use their powers to fight wars, ” he mumbled sadly.
It never crossed the mind of Emerald’s soldiers to go off by themselves and watch the stars night after night in order to decipher the messages from the gods.
“ Just a pack of impatient wolf cubs. ”
Mori wrote the date at the top of a large papyrus page. The night before, he had picked up troubling signs between the North Star and the constellation of the Shield. As soon as he finished writing down his observations, he would have to write a long letter to Elund telling him about it.
“ A strange glow appeared barely a few degrees from Istanria, the warning star. I watched it right up until morning because it was moving slowly towards the Shield. We all know that this particular sector of the heavens forebodes catastrophes. Indeed, it was in this very sector that we saw the flaming star several years ago. ”
“ I was about to retire for the night, my eyes were heavy with sleep, when the gaseous mass took the shape of a crocodile, a very ancient animal that disappeared from the rivers of Enkidiev before the dynasties were established. However, according to my late master, a number of these carnivorous beasts took refuge in the Forbidden Forest. There are very few references to this species of reptile in the books about celestial symbols, because it has so seldom been seen in the heavens. The last mention of it goes back to the second dynasty, at the time of the great famine, when our ancestors were faced with hordes of dragons who attempted to devour them because they could not find any food. ”
“ I have reread the observations I wrote down over the last few months to see if there is any link between this animal and the new invasion by the Dark Emperor. The fact that this glowing beast moves in a direction contrary to the dreadful star of Shola perplexes me. And so does its white color. It’s as if the danger is coming from both Irianeth and the heavens at the same time. ”
“ Well
