Walking in the Light
D ON T YOU LOVE WHAT LIGHT DOES when it shines through a stained glass window-how it plays with the colors and manifests an even greater beauty in addition to the beauty already inherent in the artwork itself? Even when a ray of light comes through a colorless pane of glass in a regular window, it can be brilliantly effective enough to attract us as we gaze upon it-or better yet, position ourselves to let the light fall over us. I had a cat that always sought out the best rays of light coming from one of the small four-paned windows in our house, and it curled up for a nice nap in the warmth of the sun streaming in. I remember one time I laid down next to the cat to soak up some of those toasty rays of light myself. I found in the short time I was there that I was strengthened and rejuvenated. Most people-and most animals as well-are attracted to light. We find it invigorating. Though we seek a dark and quiet place to sleep, we don t want to stay there all the time. We need light to live.
Jesus said, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life (John 8:12). Without His spiritual light coming into our lives when we receive Him, we would find ourselves stumbling in the dark times. We need Him to illuminate our mind, soul, and spirit in every way possible. And He is the only one who is able to do that. All other lights eventually go out, but not the light that comes from Him. His light is unchanging, and it never fails. That s because He is unchanging, and He never fails. Every time you worship Him-and all that He is-you invite the light of His presence to shine in your heart, transforming you and illuminating your prayers.

PRAYING ABOUT
His Wife
L ORD , I worship You as the one, true God over all of creation. I praise You as Lord over my life. Thank You that You gave Your life for me on the cross so that I can have victory over death and hell-whether at the end of my life or in the ways we can experience death and hell in our lives on earth. Thank You that You died for us on the cross, and You rose from the dead and appeared to many, proving that You are who You said You are-God s Son, the promised Messiah-who came to save all those who open their hearts to receive You.
I pray my husband and I will always remember fully what You have done for us. Enable us to become all You created us to be. Teach us how to fulfill what You called us to be for each other. Specifically, I pray for myself to be the woman and wife You want me to become. I realize I don t have the power to change myself or make changes in my life that are lasting, but I know You do. Show me the ways I need to change. Reveal to me anything I am not seeing about myself. Take away any selfishness, impatience, hurt, anger, or unforgiveness, and make me to be an instrument of peace, kindness, love, acceptance, and healing.
I also realize I cannot change my husband, so I relinquish any temptation to try and do that. Help me to show a deeper love and appreciation for him. Enable him to see that You are giving him a new wife. And it s me.
In Jesus name I pray.
How Can I Be Changed?
No one is perfect. Everyone needs to be changed in some way. That s because God wants all of us to become more like Him. Who doesn t need that? But only God can make changes in us that are permanent. It s easier to see how someone else needs to change-especially your husband because you know him so well. It s much harder to see the changes that need to happen in you. But you can ask God to show you what changes He wants to work in you and then pray for those changes to happen-whether it s for more patience, forgiveness, and understanding-or simply to see that one of the best ways you can bless your husband is by praying for him.
Often we women judge ourselves too harshly. At the same time, some of us don t want to admit any faults at all because, lined up next to the faults we see in our husband, we feel our faults pale in comparison. But God s Word says that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Therefore, we all need to be changed. So your husband needs to be changed too, but you don t have the responsibility of trying to change him. You can t anyway. That s because God wants to do that Himself. But your prayers for your husband can greatly facilitate that happening.
The truth is, we all find the liberty we need in God s presence. That means freedom from ourselves and freedom to bask unhindered in the light of His unconditional love. The reason God s light and love can never fail is because He is light. He is love. So the more time we spend with the Lord-especially in worship-the more of His light and love we experience, and that will always affect the way we love others and the way we pray.
Words to Remember
Proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
1 P ETER 2:9
The Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 C ORINTHIANS 3:17
Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

PRAYING ABOUT
His Work
L ORD , I worship You as the all-knowing God of the universe. I praise You for Your Word, which is perfect in converting the soul and making wise the simple (Psalm 19:7). Thank You that I can trust in Your Word forever, knowing it will always bring clarity, comfort, guidance, edification, love, joy, peace, and a deep relationship with You. I am grateful that Your Word reveals how much You love me. And it will stand forever because You, Lord Jesus, are the living Word. You have always been and You always will be.
I pray that my husband will move into an ever-deepening walk with You. Bless him with Your counsel so that he will always seek it. Let it affect his decisions about the way he does his work. Teach him to find comfort in Your laws and ways. Enable him to see that Your commandments are true and right and pure and dependable. Give my husband favor with others, and let him be known for the high quality of work he does no matter what it is. Help him to always be doing the work You have for him. Enable him to recognize the gifts You have put in him and to develop his skills so that they become more and more valuable. Open doors of opportunity for him. Let his work be satisfying, fulfilling, and financially fruitful so that he can support his family without worry. I pray he will always make good choices about the work he does and with whom he works, and that those choices are pleasing to You. Enable him to always find favor among the people for whom and with whom he works.
In Jesus name I pray.
How Can I Encourage Him in His Work?
A man s work is an important source of fulfillment and happiness to him. That s why your prayers for your husband can be a huge support to him in this area of his life. It s important to make sure he knows you are praying for him about this, so assure him you understand how important it is for him to be successful in his work. Tell him you want to keep him in prayer concerning anything he needs regarding that. Ask him to explain how you can specifically pray for him regarding any particular aspect of his work, and then follow through in prayer with whatever he shares with you. If he doesn t tell you as much as you would like, pray for what you do know he needs, such as good working relationships with people, and that he be highly respected for his work.
If you know your husband has self-doubt in the area of his work, pray that he understands clearly what his gifts and abilities are so that he doesn t wander without direction from job to job. If he already knows his gifts and skills and is quite focused on being good at what he does, pray that he doesn t focus on his work so much that he neglects other important aspects of his life-such as his marriage, children, relationship with God, and spending time with other believers who can be a refreshing encouragement to him. Pray also that he doesn t overwork himself. He needs times of rest and rejuvenation. Ask God to help him find a good balance so he doesn t get burned out from unrelenting pressure or become discouraged due to lack of success. Pray that he will always be paid generously for the work he does.
Words to Remember
I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
P SALM 138:2
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.
